Goodbye Protx, hello Sage Pay

So today is a momentous day the business that was Protx, becomes Sage Pay and this is my first message on the new site and as Sage Pay.

There is a lot of formal communication about the change, in particular an article in the new payments magazine moving money (email movingmoney@sagepay.com if you’d like a copy!), but I wanted to post something on a more personal level.

I think there are 3 key points that stand out for me about this rebrand, so I thought I would share them with you...
 
The first is that I always wanted this to be more than just a change of name. From day one, Protx was the plucky start-up, daring to be different, challenging the status quo of the emerging PSP industry. In effect we declared war on over-charging and were not willing to exploit the customer confusion that abounds in payments. So ‘no set up fees’ and offering telephone support as part of our basic service, being open and transparent with pricing, and making our system as easy to integrate as possible, are key elements of our proposition that have always been a part of who we are. And as Sage Pay of course, that won’t change. As Sage Pay we’ll preserve the best of what it meant to be Protx and add to it more choice for our customers and an even higher level of service. There is no more appropriate way to mark the transition than going live today with 24 hour UK-based telephone support available to all customers. Also we now offer merchant services as bolt-on to Sage pay Go, the new name for our payment service.

Second point is the tremendous response from our team in embracing a new future as Sage Pay, given our rich history as Protx. The achievements of Protx have been considerable and everyone involved in the story deserves credit, even those who have only been here a short time. There are those of course who played a big part in the Protx story and we are fortunate that many of our team have been here for a number of years, supporting our growth through some challenging times. Deserving a specific mention today are Michael Alculumbre who founded Protx as a PSP and recently left Sage, Sophie Pearce who played a lead role in shaping the business commercially and left us last Christmas, and very much still with us, Mat Peck our CTO who has been with Protx since the beginning and is excited as any one at the future we’re going to build as Sage Pay.

Finally, and most importantly, has been the great encouragement we’ve had from our customers.
